Instructions for Use

Flannel is widely popular for its soft and warm qualities, but to maintain its performance and extend its lifespan, several aspects need careful attention during use. The following provides practical advice from the perspectives of washing, drying, storage, daily wear, and selection.

Handle with care when washing: Flannel often contains wool fibers and is prone to damage. It’s recommended to use a neutral detergent and avoid alkaline products, which can cause the fibers to mat together. Keep the water temperature below 30°C and limit soaking time to no more than 15 minutes to prevent dye from fading. When hand-washing, gently rub along the fabric’s grain, paying special attention to cleaning the collar and cuffs; never wring or twist the fabric forcefully. For machine washing, place the garment in a laundry bag, select the gentle cycle, and set the spin cycle to no more than 1 minute. 12

Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading and deformation: After washing, immediately spread out the garments and lay them flat on a wide hanger in a cool, well-ventilated area to dry. Avoid exposing them directly to sunlight, as this can cause discoloration or make the fibers brittle. During drying, periodically rotate the items to ensure even drying. Once fully dry, gently pat the surface to restore fluffiness.

Storage requires moisture and pest prevention: Before storing, make sure clothes are completely dry—humid environments can easily breed mold. Place bamboo charcoal bags or desiccants in your wardrobe to maintain a humidity level of around 50%. It’s better to fold garments for storage rather than hang them, as hanging can cause shoulder deformation. Add camphor sticks to deter insects and avoid using chemical mothproofing agents that could damage fabric fibers. Periodically take out your clothes and air them out for at least two hours to keep them elastic.

When wearing daily, the key is to minimize friction: For single-sided flannel, avoid contact with rough surfaces; for double-sided styles, be sure to alternate between the inside and outside when wearing. If pilling occurs, use a lint remover to trim the pills in one direction—never pull or tug forcefully. When eating, we recommend wearing an apron to protect against oil stains, and promptly blot any spilled liquids with a paper towel. After wearing 3–4 times, gently brush away dust and debris using a soft-bristled brush, following the direction of the nap.

Selection and Special Care: High-quality flannel has a weight ranging from 320 to 380 grams per square meter, with dense and evenly distributed pile. If you're allergic to wool, use it with caution, as it may cause reactions such as itching. After washing, if the garment’s size changes, you can use steam treatment combined with stretching and reshaping to restore its original form. For color care, for dark-colored items, add white vinegar during the first wash to set the color; for light-colored items, use oxygen-based bleach. Wash multi-colored garments separately, and when storing, place white paper between items to prevent color bleeding.
